The Center for Citizen Diplomacy Featured at NAFSA, Premiere Event for International Educators

DES MOINES, IOWA, May 27, 2014 — The Center for Citizen Diplomacy is being featured at  this year’s NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo in San Diego, California.   NAFSA, a premiere international educators association, convenes leaders in the higher education community to discuss trends and hot button challenges facing this community.  The Center’s poster, “Citizen Diplomacy & Vibrant Global Campuses” was selected to be featured during the session on “Connections between Peace and Justice, Social Responsibility, and International Education”.

Through its recently launched citizen diplomacy workshop, The Center helps young leaders understand the concept of global fluency, its impact on the larger world around them, and how acting as citizen diplomats will help them to achieve their own personal and professional goals, while making a positive contribution to the global community.

The four-hour workshop challenges college students to embrace their powerful ability to change the world through person-to-person citizen diplomacy.  “Most universities have been charged with the task of graduating globally competent students who are competitive in a global marketplace,” says Matt Clark, Program Manager at the Center. “Even at colleges where excellent resources and programs exist, students don’t always take full advantage of opportunities around them if they don’t see the value. We hope the concepts inherent to citizen diplomacy will help higher education institutions bring their existing efforts under a common framework.”
