Types of Articles
Feature Articles - Stories of Impact
Stories of impact are interesting and have a point of view. Ideally, it will describe the impact of a program, approach, or experience on you, your organization, beneficiaries, consumers, or clients.
- 650-800 words; no more than 1000 words.

Strategic Thought Leadership or Opinion
A strategic thought leadership or opinion piece explains or defends a new approach to solving complex global challenges.

Photo Essay
A photo essay tells the story of a program, event, challenge, or theme using related images and short captions.

Leadership content can take many forms—it can describe a situation or challenge and provide example, direction and encouragement for a small or large group. It can relate to both people and ideas.

Corporations are driving innovation by leveraging the expertise of their top employees to create high-value social impact in global markets. International pro bono assignments are often win-win-win: companies, their employees, and local clients benefit from the partnerships developed, new skills learned, and services provided.

Impact and Innovation
Impact and innovation chronicles the collaborative approaches and ideas working to address complex challenges.
Human centered design is a process to create new solutions. The process helps people hear the needs of people and communities—especially those under-served—and create innovative, accessible, affordable solutions that will work in their environment. Describe a time when you used these principles to deeply understand needs and recommended products, services, or approaches that were required to meet those needs. Conversely, describe a situation or issue that requires this approach, or solutions that were implemented and ineffective because the needs were not well understood.
Reverse innovation or disruptive innovation are often used to describe services or products which start in under-served markets, because they fill a particular need and then, based on market success, quickly go “up market” to displace traditional products or services. Describe a situation in which you have observed this, or a situation/issue which is ripe for this approach.
Lean Startup method, impact investing, hybrid value chains, new business models and other social enterprise reinforcement strategies are transforming the way organizations developand succeed over time. Share your view on how new strategies in this area are transforming a local or global context. What seems to be working well? What isn’t? Why?
Enterprise Development
Enterprises have become the engine of growth for developing economies worldwide, and new entrepreneurs are emerging around the world every day.
Describe your experience with a new enterprise (social or otherwise) and how it has transformed a local context you have worked in. What was the initial situation/context? What inspired you? What approach did you take? What happened? How did you adjust? What is the status today?
Describe your experience with regards to developing sustainable communities, which become self sufficient over time. What was the situation/context? What inspired the first effort/approach/plan? What was the initial leadership? How was the plan implemented? How did it evolve over time? How was local capability developed and leadership transitioned for long-term results? Citizen Diplomacy
Citizen diplomacy involves everyday citizens crossing cultural and geographic borders to create sustaining relationships that enhance mutual understanding.
Describe a circumstance in which you felt you served as a citizen diplomat, either through study abroad, volunteerism, or other cross-border activities. What was the situation/context? What happened? What lesson did you take away? How has it informed decisions or activities in your life?
